Longboards work well and can be kept in their best shape if you do regular maintenance. Sometimes, you might pass a cleaning or maintenance schedule just because it feels a lot of work. The more you do that, the more likely you’ll develop problems with your longboard and you don’t want that.
It can be dangerous and risky to have problems with the equipment you use for a high-speed sport.
The Squeak
One of the problems you might encounter with your longboard is the squeaking sound. Whenever you turn, you hear the squeak and the more you ignore it, the more obvious the squeak becomes.
Longboards, whether older ones or brand new ones can produce a squeaking sound. When it does, it is probably caused by the rubbers in the truck. If they are too dry, they are likely to squeak. Similarly, the bushings that are too dry may also be the culprit.
How To Get Rid Of The Squeak
The first thing you need to do clean your trucks. Remove the trucks first before you clean it with a piece of cloth. If you have some skate wax, you can place some of it between the rubbers in the pivot cup to prevent it from squeaking.
If you don’t have skate wax, paraffin candle wax or soap shavings will do. Wax is preferred over oil because it won’t accumulate as much dirt. Similarly, bar soap is preferred than a liquid soap because the liquid soap dries up into a sticky gel, which will cause more squeaking sound. After applying wax, you can now put back the trucks. You might see some wax flakes but don’t worry because those will eventually go away.
Make sure to be careful about taking your trucks apart. If you aren’t used to doing this, it would be best to do one truck at a time. Place back the one you removed carefully before moving on to the next. Apart from removing the squeaky sound, this remedy can even make your trucks turn more fluidly.
