This years Skatesgiving trip is underway and the stoke is high. Comet bought a huge 15 passenger van and we got the best skaters from the East Coast plus a few defectors to come shred hills you never knew existed. The personnel for this year is Brian Peck, Max Dubler, Ludo Tremblay, Ben Dubreil, Pat Schep, Olivier Seguin-Luduc, Matt K, Matt Mclovin Livingston, Anthony Flis and Keith Rebhorn. Beyond Comet we have Kebbek, Rotule, Sector 9, Landyachtz and Rayne as sponsors all helping out to make this trip kick more ass than anything you’ve ever seen from the East Coast.

Friday night we all met for a private skatepark session at Grindlab Skatepark in Harrisburg, PA. The D.C. crew rolled up for the session as well including Nick Ketner who melted faces after getting a concussion. After skating until midnight the party moved back to Phat Deanz house where we crashed out for a few hours before starting off the trip with some proper 50+mph pack runs. We have one day of sick filming and skating down and 8 more days to go. Check back for daily updates from different skaters on the trip.

Check out the first video from last years trip to get a feel for what day 2 could look like.

Push Culture Soldiers of Downhill Coverage

Posted by Anthony on November 17th, 2011 — Posted in Uncategorized

Regardless of what you think of Push Culture, the Davenports are great people that have a genuine love and respect for the sport. Stoked to finally get to see their footy from Ohio. If you missed the race than insert random angry comment probably calling you a kook from me as usual.

Halloween Costume Jam – Chesapeake, VA

Posted by Anthony on November 15th, 2011 — Posted in Event Re-cap

This event recap comes from the good dudes over at Sketch Skateboards. Thanks for stoking the masses Taylor.

The farthest standing slide competition was held first, with very few lead changes.  David Kynett rolled down the hill second on the first run, out of three runs, and hit a slide that wasn’t matched until the second one.  On run two Kynett reached a further distance, but was then overcome by Evan Hodges, giving Evan the lead going into the last run.  With the third run to go, Nate Bergel slammed down the longest slide with only two more contestants left to go.

The fastest downhill speed competition was second, and probably left some skaters experiencing slower speeds due to the high velocity of winds that unfortunately were blasting on the event day.  Throughout the first two runs of the competition the highest speed was 22 mph, with several skaters tied at that limit.  On the third and final run, Nate Bergel, again performing on the last run of a competition, hit 23 mph to give him the victory.  The six skaters who tied at 22 mph:  Andrew McAlister, Evan Hodges, Anthony DeFrancesco, Matt Riley, Phil Smith and Jake Christman, were sent back to the top of the hill for a downhill race.  Andrew McAlister reached the bottom first, taking second place in the competition, followed by Evan Hodges in third place.

As for the best kicker ramp trick competition and best trick competition, a twenty minute jam session was held.  The session was full of madness as skaters were hitting tricks, and also slams, left and right continuously.  The judging panel consisted of two skaters, Spencer Guizard and Jeffrey Sellazzo, who kept an eye on both the kicker ramp and remainder of the street area during the competition.  Skaters had twenty minutes to hit both the kicker ramps and street course tricks.  The competition was judged on difficulty, consistency and style.

Cold weather and a decent amount of clouds were the only set back for the event, but the entire day was successful and a bunch of skaters got the chance to come out for a day of shredding.  From the beginning, with free skate time down the hill, to the intense competing and spectating of the competition rounds, we at Sketch Skateboards, believe the event was a huge success!  The prize table awarding at the end of the event caused a huge level of excitement, and with a raffle after the podium skater’s picks, almost everyone at the event with home with something, even if it was just a handful of great stickers!  Thanks again to all the sponsors who sent gear for prize giveaways, helped to sponsor and promote the event, and to XVD Longboards for building some amazing kicker ramps!

Beauties of the Beast – Casey Jackson

Posted by Anthony on November 10th, 2011 — Posted in Uncategorized

Chris Buono hit me with this over a month ago but October was insane and I’ve been slacking with the site for personal reasons (I’ve actually been going skating…). Here is the first interview in the series that the ladies man himself is doing with the raddest girls that shred in the east.

My first Beauty of the Beast interview is kicking off with Casey Jackson!

She has just as much energy and stoke as I do on skateboarding and LIFE!!!! I don’t even know were to start with this lovely lady! Between her skating, roof top gardening, volunteer job as an assistant horticulturist at the Baltimore aquarium, her awesome cat, biology and chemistry tattoos on her arms, cliff diving and gluten free beer drinking habit she is an awesome friend to all! And this is all just the daily life of Casey Jackson!

I first met her briefly at Fight Club DC, she was and still rips a mini ramp harder then myself and 95% of the longboarders in the area. About a year later I met her in the elevator of a parking garage in Baltimore. That tattoo!  Its stuck in the back of my head…Since the garage session that night she has been the older sis I never had! She’ll help anybody with anything! But don’t cross her. SHE WILL DESTROY YOU. If you were at Anthony Flis’ Nova Slide Jam this past winter you may have seen the devil come out a little bit!

Chris: CASEY!!!!!    Please tell us a little bit about your self. What got you into skateboarding?

Casey: After highschool I attended college for 8 years and earned three degrees. When I graduated I realized I needed an outlet for stress, I needed a social life. So at 26 years of age, I chose skateboarding to provide me with just that: a stress outlet and a social life. Plus it seemed radder than anything else out there.

Dixie Cup 7

Posted by Anthony on November 1st, 2011 — Posted in Event Announcements

This is an event that I always wanted to go to but never made it down and now it’s the last year it’s happening and there’s no way I’m going to make it. On top of that this is the best flier I’ve seen in a while. Go get your wiggle on!

Unlike Pie Pan UFOs , Nessy, and Bigfoot, the 7th and FINAL Dixie Cup should be put in the category of NON-HOAX with likes of ELVIS being alive and that guy calling from Nigeria to borrow money that he’ll return with 200% interest.
This is for real. Start making your travel arrangements.
Last Dixie Cup! COME GET SOME BEFORE IT’S ALL GONE!

Sketch Halloween Costume Jam

Posted by Anthony on November 1st, 2011 — Posted in Event Announcements

This is Taylor Watson, founder of Sketch Skateboards!  Recently my brand sponsored a longboard skate jam hosted by Adacia Longboards in the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach area on September 10, 2011 in Virginia and drew multiple sponsors.  The event was great, and contained a guest list of 158 people!!  The skaters who attended loved the event so much that I decided to host another event, this time Sketch Skateboards being the host and Adacia Longboards is once again helping to sponsor, along with many other brands such as Original Skateboards, Seismic Skate Systems, XVD Longboards, Storm Longboards, Bustin Boards, SteezyGnar, Kracked Skulls Longboards and LongbeardVA, and many other companies soon to be involved!  The event we are hosting will be a halloween costume skate jam on November 5, 2011.  Skaters will come out dressed in costumes for a full day of fun skating and some serious competitions to wrap up the event.  The event was published online just last Thursday night at 11:00 p.m. and our guest list is already around 60+!

H.I.T.S. Longboarding

Posted by Anthony on October 25th, 2011 — Posted in Press Releases, Stoke

Cam Brick from Onterrible land started this site. At first I was skeptical about it but it’s actually really cool. It’s made me watch a lot of videos that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise or would have not paid any mind to before. Props on the site dude!

Heavy in the Streets (HITS) Longboarding was created to fill a
void. We noticed there were no other sites where people could come from all over the world to share videos. Sure, there are other sites with skate videos, but ours services as a massive archive that is constantly being updated. When the site launched just a few weeks ago, we had 2500 videos, and now we have over 4000. We don’t care if you’re sponsored or not – we care about the progression of the sport and that’s how we pick the videos for the front page. We want people to have an easy way to post their videos and get exposure while being able to check out other skaters from around the world with new tricks and different styles.
