Video Of The Week: Dane’s Thane Stains & Brian.

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

This is some straight east coast shit. Dane and Brian ride for Loaded and Original respectively and are from up north in New England. They’re great guys that like to go sideways. Sam Weaver is the man behind the lens and if you missed our little post about SkateDistrict, his blog where you can find all his epic photos and videos repping the shredders of New England, you should check it out.

Central Mass. Downhill!

Friday, July 29th, 2011

The 2nd Annual Central MA Longboarding Event, the only event of its kind in New England, is preparing to bring over 300 athletes and spectators to the little town of Harvard, MA on Sunday Aug 7th. Its success is evidence that the new wave of longboarding has a home on the East Coast.

After an extremely successful grassroots event in 2010, event organizer Mike Girard has created enough community enthusiasm to draw over 150 participants from all over the East Coast – all the way down to Florida – to this event. It took only a day for the Facebook event to reach 100 positive RSVPs, and the responses have continued to come in. Participants range from life-long adult skaters, to sponsored professional riders and the young up-and-coming.

The Central MA competition features three main events: a downhill race, a slide competition, and a flatland style competition. In the downhill race, 128 athletes will race in 4-man heats down a closed-road course that features two descents, both of which will propel racers to speeds approaching 50mph. The slide competition will have racers performing their best moves down a section of the race course with judges spaced along the hill to assess them. Judges will also determine the winner of the flatland competition, in which groups of participants will have a set time limit to show off. Secondary events include longest slide competitions and games of SKATE, which is played like the basketball game HORSE.

The competition boasts over 20 sponsors, including big names like Loaded Boards, Orangatang Wheels, Push Culture, Concrete Wave, Original, Surf Rodz, Eastern Boarder and more, as well as local longboarding startups like Eden Racing, Nashawtuck Longboards, and Green Street Longboards. Other sponsors include Trophy Life Tattoo, Marcus Lewis Day Camp, Collegiate Greenscaping and Creative Contact. This means participants can expect excellent podium prizes, while attendees can look forward to great raffle swag.

Registration for participants begins at 9am and preliminary heats will begin after 10am. The event is expected to run until 5pm. Any longboarders interested in competing can contact Mike Girard at emgeemann@gmail.com.

This gathering of downhill skateboarding enthusiasts received press coverage in SkateSlate, the Loaded Blog, the Harvard Press, and the Harvard Post last year. A video recap of the first event can be found here.

New Jersy Slide Jam 5

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Thanks to Andiry from Earhtwing for the video.

The day was hot as hell but it didn’t stop the shredding. Josh Wright and Dylan Headley won it to continue their domination of slide jams.

Video of the Week: TMMR Final Heat

Monday, July 18th, 2011

This race was awesome. There’s not really a whole lot to say about the weekend other than that it was the best downhill skaters on the east coast plus some friends from else where like Max Myers battling it out. The freeriding on saturday was ridiculous with the biggest pack runs mobbing some beautiful PA pavement like the East Coast has never seen before. There was carnage too though. If you haven’t sent love to Peter Croce make sure you do because he broke his back on a fucking tree because of an asshole driving in the wrong lane with a pack of skaters way too close. On Sunday the racing was tight and intense since it was less publicized this year to weed out the large amount of noobs that caused a crash in every first round heat last year. With around 40 racers total it amounted to each round looking like a final from any previous East Coast race from the past two years. There were skaters from Quebec, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Maine, California, Ohio, Oregon and maybe more? Who the hell knows, it was a whos who of downhillers on the east coast so just watch out for the coverage we’ll keep posting as media comes out. The fact is you should have been there, unless you were going to crash someone out into the toxic waste puddle!

Results:

1st Keith Rebhorn (Comet, Surf-Rodz)

2nd Anthony Flis (Comet, Paris)

3rd Dmitri Komarov (Rotule, Ultimate)

4th Jeremy Ross (Soda Factory, Phat Deanz)

The NSA dudes go fast and get gnar. New Englanders and Beast Coasters alike take some notes on being ballsy without leathers. Don’t forget that pavement slaps back sometimes!

DC Slide Jam

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Between fancy suburbs, buildings and an infestation of trees and deer is where the spot is located.  Not too far from everyone’s beloved Sherrill Dr NW where Chris Bono hosts his picnics.
The Jam is sticking to the true Jam spirit. Starts at 9am sharp. BE THERE, SKATE HARD, SHOW OFF YO MOVES and be judged by a secret line up of east coast all stars. You won’t be disappointed by the prizes ready to be thrown your way. We’ve got sponsors signed and more are on the way to do so. (This announcement being all the needed). Right after the jam and prizes are handed out the fun will be moved to Sherrill for a picnic.

If you are still not stoked, go skate. The read this again, AND GET SUMM!!

BTW. Helmets and gloves required to skate, of course.
