2nd Annual Central MA Contest

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Hey BeastCoasters! Looking for something to do in August? The 2nd Annual Central MA Event is gearing up to be huge – an event you definitely cannot miss. We have lots of sponsors, tons of prizes and over 130 people registered to come to Harvard, MA already. August 7th is going to be a long stoke-filled day of sick skating, good food, and all kinds of prizes that anyone could win.

Heads up! All the essential information is below:

REGISTRATION

Unfortunately, we had to cap the number of downhill registrants at 128 this year and it’s already full.  Email emgeemann@gmail.com ASAP to get on the wait list. There’s still plenty of room in the Freeride and Flatland comps, so if you haven’t gotten your name on those lists yet, get on it!

Waiver
To save us all some time on the day of the event, print out this waiver, slap your John Hancock on it, and bring it with you!

Cost
This year you can save five bones by paying your registration ahead of time via PayPal. Just send your payment to emgeebay@gmail.com via PayPal. Anyone participant can also add an event t-shirt to their registration for just $5!

In Advance: $15 (+$5 for t-shirt)
Day Of Event: $20 (+$5 for t-shirt)

SCHEDULE

9am – Registration Starts
10am – Race Hill Opens for Practice Runs
11am – Downhill Racing Begins

Please do your best to show up on the early side. We cannot guarantee you will be able to race if you arrive after 11.

EVENT FORMATS

Downhill
We can’t tell you where it is yet, but we can tell you that the course has two slopes that take you to the mid-40’s, divided by a short push section (shorter this year!). We are making it more technical with super giant slalom cones on the downhills. We are shooting for a 128-person bracket that will race single-elimination in four man heats, top two advance.

Freeride
This year’s freeride is going to be on a faster slope, and will be judged by some totally worthy peeps. Hard and soft wheels will be allowed, and judges will consider the technical challenges of using either when scoring. The judges will be spread out on the hill so your whole run counts. Because there are so many skaters, riders runs will have to be spaced out, but everyone is guaranteed several runs to show their stuff.

Longest Slide
We will be having a longest slide competition again, and we promise there will be more than enough time for it! Separate prizes for hard and soft wheels.

Freeride SKATE
In our next update, we will be announcing a list of qualifying tricks to get into the Freeride SKATE comp.

Flatland
This year’s flatland is guaranteed to go down, and will be held at a dope spot within walking and skating distance of the race hill. It’s got a great place for spectating, plenty of room for tricks and a small drop-in for some extra speed.

Flatland SKATE
With the number of registrants right now, we’ll be able to play this as a traditional game of SKATE, with the order of riders chosen at random.

PRIZES

Oh, we’ve got a lot of goodies lined up for our winners. Keep an eye out for our next update where you’ll find out exactly what you can get your hands on!

VOLUNTEERS

Want to help us pull this thing off? How about a staff t-shirt? Email emgeemann@gmail.com if you can do morning set up, run registration, race marshal, clean up or just make yourself generally useful. You might even get to use a walky-talky!

Montreal Slide Jam – July 10

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

No entry fee. No winners. No podium. No competition. Just a super fun afternoon of slides and tricks and silly obstacles. Oh yeah… and lots of prizes! There will be lots of awesome skaters sharing their creativity and stoke so you better not miss this!

The event will start at 2pm on Sunday, July 10th. Do not come before. We will be there rain or shine. In fact, if it rains it will be only more fun! So bring a rain jacket… and rain bearings.

The location is a spot in downtown Montreal that we call The Caserne. But I will not post a location online. So if you have any questions email me (dim.komarov@gmail.com).

AND NO EXCUSES FOOLS! BE THERE!

To help get your stoke on here’s a video from last year’s Montreal Slide Jam organized by SkateHouseMedia‘s Matt K.

Video of the Week

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

If you’ve spent any time on this site then you know that we don’t normally post content like this or even talk about longboard freestyle. Jack Darby kills it with this video though and is from a small town in VA so I’m a sucker for shredders from my home state. He rides for original and definitely deserves it.

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

We’re starting something new here at BCL. We’ll be posting a video every week from either Kids of the Future, Team Quebec, Northern Skate Alliance or submissions/east coast videos we find that are gnarly. So if you have a video that you think is cool enough to be a Video of the Week then hit us up. The first one comes out you from KOTF and has footage from Phat Deans freeride weekend and a trip to Southern Virginia.
