Munnsville Cont.

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

If you didn’t see the follow up post about last night’s meeting here it is. If you have a sponsor or industry connection spread the word and help bring back the best event ever. I’ve already emailed a couple people instead of doing school work.

“Ok Friends, this is the deal- .

It’s all about the Ben’s” $$$
1.) About 2000 bales of hay= $5 per bale = $10k, (usually we get it donated; but for the farmers during economic conditions money is tight for these guys around here..esp. in NY so we don’t expect them to donate to much)
2.) Donations
3.) If our local County (Madison) needs to repair the road, for your safety.
4.) Volunteers

Last event 08, cost more than $10,000.00 to host the event., with donations included. This year w/ the cost of hay it is going to be about $15,000-$20,000
We want to make this happen, but with a short time to plan it’s going to be hard. So the more money we can get to host this event, the better-as soon as we can–

News Flash: Munnsville 2011

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

As posted by a Munnsville Community member on Silverfish:

“Hello Everyone-
I am proud to announce that our community is meeting tonight at the American Legion Post 54 to bring back Gravity Fest this year…the last one was held in 2008- and we’re in the making of discussing it tonight at 6:30pm EST to bring it back again to East Hill..a.k.a Crash Corner…
If you need to contact me; please contact me via email… jehnjehn@yahoo.com or friend me on facebook Welcome to Facebook – Log In, Sign Up or Learn More
Our community and or county- may need other things to make this happen.
I am the owner of the Yellow House at the starting point, of the races, and there was a discrepancy about the road conditions, and other issues…funding, and stuff like that.
I will keep you all posted on what’s going to happen after the meeting tonight-
Let’s keep our legs, fingers, toes, etc. crossed!!!
Jennifer”

If you have no idea what Munnsville is check out this article from a local upstate New York paper: http://www.oneidadispatch.com/articles/2011/03/25/news/doc4d8d2b0726d9f601972641.txt?viewmode=fullstory

Please send your support in anyway! This is one of those events that solidified the fact that I am a downhill skateboarder for the rest of my life. I have not experienced such outpouring from a community at a downhill event anywhere else in my travels. MCGF is THE race that people remember from the East Coast, let them know that we want that to be a continued event and not just a memory!

First 2011 Rock Creek Longboard Picnic

Monday, March 28th, 2011

photos: Anthony Smallwood

If you don’t know what the Rock Creek Park longboard picnics in Washington D.C. are then here’s the low down. Chris “Ono” Buono, who rides for tutone and is the stoke machine of the DC area, wanted to put on an event in D.C. to get people stoked. He got minimal response from potential sponsors so he said FUCK IT and posted a date and said come freeride. His girlfriend and her mom quickly jumped in to say they would bring some food. That first picnic was a good start with a decent turnout, great weather until a torrential downpour that we skated through anyway. Since then Chris has held a picnic almost every month until winter set in. Now that the weather has turned around and the season is starting he brought back the picnics this past weekend to kick off the 2011 season and get kids stoked out.

Rock Creek Longboard Picnic #1 of 2011

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Please RSVP here if you plan on coming. Like the picnics in the past Alley and her mom are going to be cooking out and they want a head count to know how much food to bring. If you want to contribute something like drinks let them know that as well. As always they will be taking donations for their favorite charity, Thankful Heart Pantry. Also since it is a national park in the heart of the capital don’t bring anything illegal.

New York City Expo and Skating

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

If you want to read about what happened at the Longboard Expo go to any other site to get the play by play. Other places ate it up and fed you constant updates. I’ll quickly tell you the three or four things that stood out to me that were rad: 1) Gullwing and how Mercado is bringing it back, 2) Earthwing’s new High Tailer because it’s just plain bad ass and one of the manliest skateboards out there, 3) Comet’s new graphics for 2011, the line up just looks sick and 4) Seeing Ian Comishin bringing KebbeK back big time.

I didn’t stay too long, it was crowded and after making rounds to companies I wanted to check out and some intense jungle juice, Pat Schep, Nino and myself decided we’d had enough and it was time to go shred Chelsea Pier. Talking about skateboarding is not skateboarding and we wanted the real thing, no bullshit. The rest of the day sums up my feelings on skating versus the vibe that I get from certain media outlets, forums and events.
