Nova Nontest Recap

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

The NOVA Nontest seemed pretty doomed from the start. The day it was supposed to go down it snowed and the road would not have been fun to ride, it would have been about who could just stay on their board. Then this weekend when it finally happened we got busted twice and skated three different hills throughout the day.

I got there an hour early to scope out the park and direct people where to go and was surprised to see the Fountainhead park gates open. The original hill was supposed to be a closed road in a park but there was tons of activity amongst park rangers and mountain bikers.  I think a handful of people got a run or two in before we were asked to leave. Determined to get the event off, we moved the crowd of thirty or more people to Occuaquan Park and had a couple awesome massive pack runs down the mile long, mellow down hill. It was actually pretty insane seeing that many people pack riding, tons of kids wobbling on the wavy pavement although it’s only maybe 30mph, all the downhill guys blasting through the pack pushing people out of the way, playing chicken with cars because you have groms on the right of you that you can’t push out of the way for fear of causing a pile up.

NOVA Slopestyle Nontest Now Saturday the 15th!

Monday, January 10th, 2011

ALL THIS INFO IS TRUE EXCEPT THE EVENT IS NOW SATURDAY THE 15th BECAUSE OF SNOW THIS PAST WEEKEND. THIS TIME IT’S GOING DOWN REGARDLESS OF CONDITIONS!

Jam format slopestyle where at the end of the day everyone decides who was ripping the hardest. Sponsors to come but you know I’ll make it work. There will hopefully be a kicker and a rail or box on the hill as well. The event will be held in Fountainhead park, the gates are closed in the winter so we have the hill to ourselves, it’s kind of narrow and curves slightly right but steep and slidey. Get stoked!

Important info:
Date: January 15th 2011
Time: 12 pm
Place: Fountainhead Park
Entry: free
Helmet: that goes without saying, no helmet no skatey

KOTF’s Skatesgiving Adventures

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Skatesgiving was the first non-race trip where we had this many members of Kids of the Future on board at once. It was a week long skate trip down to South Carolina and back, hitting the gnarliest downhill on the East Coast. The trip included Dmitri Komarov and Kalie Racine from Montreal, Keith Rebhorn and Pat Schep from New Jersey, Michael Rubin and Chris Buono from Maryland and myself from Virginia. It was by far one of the craziest and most epic trips I’ve ever been on. We skated some incredible spots, including THE gnarliest downhill run on the East Coast and one of the best concrete parks I’ve been to. We had cameras going almost the entire time to capture everything that went down. So check out what happens when a group of sketchy skaters skips out on their real families for the sake of good rides with their skate family.
