Sultans Of Speed III
Photos by Blair Caldwell
The last Sultans of Speed was in the dead of winter of January 2009 and we had to sweep mounds of sand out of the road and ended up with the cops called and one pissed off woman that tried to ruin every other outlaw race on the east coast she could. This year Nick Harris was the man and brought the race back in a different township of Pennsylvania, on a new hill that was even better and in the summer so we weren’t all freezing body parts off.
The day started with a swap meet where we all met up in a park near the race hill and all the OG east coast guys were there. Phat Dean had a trunk full of his new wheels for sale at stupid prices and everyone was chilling. We made our way over to the race hill and got in a few practice runs with the one family that lived on the hill out watching and asking for autographs. The run had a few sweepers and a gnarly speed bump at the fastest point that claimed a few victims. The turnout was great with some of our Montreal friends making the commitment and driving down.
We only got the first two rounds of heats in before the cops showed up and had to move to a back up hill that wasn’t nearly as interesting. It was a fairly slow drag race and people were stripping down to their boxers to get aero. The finals ended up being Matt Kienzle, Dmitri Komarov, Jeremy Ross and Sean Graves. Dimm was out kicking everyone each heat and was hungry for a win.
Results:
- Dmitri Komarov
- Jeremy Ross
- Matt Kienzle
- Sean Graves
